Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema

Konaseema district in Andhra Pradesh was formed on 4 April 2022 from part of the old East Godavari district. Its headquarters is Amalapuram.

How the district was formed

Notification No. 180 of the Revenue Department, dated 2 April 2022, formed the district.1 The notification lists 22 mandals (sub-districts).1 They are in two revenue divisions (groups of mandals): Ramachandrapuram and Amalapuram.1

The name

The notification of 2022 calls it Konaseema district.1 On 2 August 2022 another notification renamed it Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.2

Later changes

On 31 December 2025 the mandals of Mandapeta, Rayavaram and Kapileswarapuram moved from this district to East Godavari.3
