East Godavari

East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh was formed on 4 April 2022 from parts of the old East Godavari and West Godavari districts. Its headquarters is Rajamahendravaram.

East Godavari is a district of Andhra Pradesh.1 The present East Godavari district was newly formed on 4 April 2022.1 Its headquarters is at Rajamahendravaram.1 Its mandals were previously part of the old East Godavari and West Godavari districts.1 The same day the old East Godavari district, with new borders, was renamed Kakinada.2

How the district was formed

Notification No. 181 of the Revenue Department, dated 2 April 2022, formed the district.1 The notification lists 19 mandals (sub-districts).1 They are in two revenue divisions (groups of mandals): Rajamahendravaram and Kovvur.1

Later changes

On 31 December 2025 the mandals of Mandapeta, Rayavaram and Kapileswarapuram moved to this district from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema.3
