Arthur Cotton's anicut across the Godavari at Dowlaishweram, begun in 1847, and the main navigable canals of the Eastern, Central and Western Delta as they stood in the 1890s, after the sketch map in G. T. Walch's account of 1896. The anicut crossed the river's four branches in one line of works; by 1903–04 the system watered 662,000 acres. Canal courses are approximate.
