Ganapavaram (Huzurnagar)
Village in the old Huzurnagar taluk where a broken pillar of January 1214 records the founding of the town of Ganapatipura and its Rudreshvara temple by Devapala, a servant of the Kakatiyas who had been brought up by the prince Jagaddeva.
Ganapatipura
Ganapavaram lay in the Huzurnagar taluk of the old Nalgonda district. A broken stone pillar lying in its Venkatesha temple carries a damaged Sanskrit inscription. P. Sreenivasachar published it in 1940 as No. 22 of his Corpus of Inscriptions in the Telingana Districts.1 It records that Devapala’s father served king Jagaddeva, and that Jagaddeva brought Devapala up.21 After Jagaddeva, the Kakatiya chief Prola “brought him up with care and consideration”.2 Devapala created a town called Ganapatipura beside a large tank.21 There, in January 1214, he installed the god Rudreshvara.21 See the Ganapavaram inscription of Devapala.
