Prakasam

Prakasam is a district of Andhra Pradesh. On 4 April 2022 the old Prakasam district had its boundaries changed to form this district. Its headquarters is Ongole.

How the district was formed

Notification No. 189 of the Revenue Department, dated 2 April 2022, made this change.1 The notification lists 38 mandals (sub-districts).1 They are in three revenue divisions (groups of mandals): Markapuram, Kanigiri and Ongole.1

Later changes

On 31 December 2025 this district supplied all 21 mandals of the new Markapuram district.2

That day, ten mandals were also transferred to Prakasam:3

  • Addanki, Ballikurava, Janakavarampanguluru, Korisapadu and Santhamaguluru, from Bapatla3
  • Kandukuru, Lingasamudram, Gudluru, Ulavapadu and Voletivaripalem, from Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore3

The same notification formed a new revenue division in the district.3
