David Downie, The Lone Star: The History of the Telugu Mission of the American Baptist Missionary Union (opens in a new tab), 1893, plate facing p. 111 (PDF p. 148; printed sideways, turned upright) Downie's index gives pp. 111 and 114 for the baptism of 2,222 at the Gundlakamma (Gundlacumma) river. On p. 114 he places Velumpilly "the first station north of Ongole, on the Gundlacumma river, ten miles distant". The site's Religion page cites Downie for the 9,606 baptisms of 1878 and the 2,222 in one day. The print is very faded; the levels were stretched to make it readable.
