Inugurti

Village in the old Mahbubabad taluk, the town of Ganapatideva's sister Mailama and her husband the Natavadi chief Rudra, with their inscriptions and temples.

Mailama’s town

Inugurti lies in the former Mahbubabad taluk of Warangal district. The Bayyaram tank inscription calls it Inumguriki, the town of Mailama, the sister of Ganapatideva.12 P. V. Parabrahma Sastry placed the fief of the Natavadi chiefs, into whose family Mailama married, in the area around Inugurti. He also described the Bayyaram region, including Inugurti, as Mailama’s own fief.34 The notes to the Bayyaram inscription in Epigraphia Telanganica say that she built Shiva temples at Srisailam, at Kashi and in her own town.5

Inscriptions

Three records at the village were printed in the 1956 Corpus. The first is a Sanskrit pillar inscription in Nagari script, dated about 1206, in which Mailama’s husband, the Natavadi chief Rudra, records three Shiva temples.6 The second is a short Telugu record on a boulder near a cave on a hill. It records that Mailala-mahadevi set up an image of Jalandhareshvara-Bhairava on the hill north-west of the village.7 The third is a damaged Sanskrit record of a linga (stone emblem of Shiva) named after her mother Bayyambika.7 Parabrahma Sastry also cites an Inugurti inscription recording that Mailama built a temple to Gopalakrishna there.8 See the Inugurti pillar inscription.
