Patancheru
Town near Hyderabad, in the old Medak district of Telangana. A Kannada inscription there records a grant made on the day of the coronation of the Western Chalukya king Somesvara III in February 1127. P. B. Desai took it to identify Patancheru with Pottalakere. J. F. Fleet had listed Pottalakere among the minor capitals of Jayasimha II and placed it in the Bellary district.
An inscription at Patancheru is numbered Hd. 1 in P. Sreenivasachar’s collection of the Kannada inscriptions of the Telangana districts.12 It records a grant to the astrologer Nanneya Bhatta at Chintamanipura of Pottalakere, made on the day of the coronation of the Western Chalukya king Somesvara III.12 P. B. Desai dated that day to 20 February 1127.12
Desai concluded that the record shows that modern Patancheru is Pottalakere, an early Chalukya capital.12 See the Patancheru inscription.
In 1896 J. F. Fleet named Pottalakere as one of the minor capitals mentioned in the records of Jayasimha II.3 He identified it with Dannayakanakere in the Bellary district.3
