Gangapuram
Village in the Mahbubnagar district of Telangana with eleven Kannada inscriptions of the Western Chalukya period. The dated ones run from 1091 to 1148, and they record gifts to its temples by royal officers and by merchant guilds. P. V. Parabrahma Sastry took it to be the Gangapura from which the prince Kumara Tailapa claimed to reign in 1137.
P. B. Desai’s summaries in the Kannada Inscriptions of Andhra Pradesh (1961) include eleven inscriptions from Gangapuram, numbered Mn. 42 to 52. Those with dates belong to the reigns of Vikramaditya VI (1091, 1097, 1116), Somesvara III (1134) and Jagadekamalla II (1141, 1143, 1148). Several record gifts of toll income to the temples by merchants and the Nanadesi trading community.1234
Others record gifts by a royal preceptor (teacher) and by a great minister.1234 One undated record tells of the building of a tank and a shrine of Bhimesvara.1234 One records an astrological endowment of 1091; see the Gangapuram inscription of Vikramaditya VI. Another, in verse, praises an ascetic presiding over the religious establishment of Minambara.5
Kumara Tailapa
P. V. Parabrahma Sastry cited an inscription of 1137.67 In it Kumara Tailapa is said to be reigning from his camp-capital (nelavidu) of Gangapura.67 Parabrahma Sastry took the records of Jagadekamalla II at Gangapuram, of 1141 and 1143, as showing that the king recovered the place from him.67 No Wikidata item for this Gangapuram was found, so it is not placed on the map.
