Rekapalli

Village on the Godavari in the old Bhadrachalam taluk. N. Venkataramanayya and M. Somasekhara Sarma identified it with the Rekapalli at the foot of the Malyavanta hill that was the capital of the Musunuri chief Prolaya Nayaka, after the Telugu coast was freed from the Delhi Sultanate.

Prolaya’s capital

The Vilasa grant says that Prolaya Nayaka drove the Delhi garrisons out of the Telugu country.1 He then established himself at Rekapalli, on the Godavari at the foot of the Malyavanta mountain, and left the government to his younger brothers.1 The editors of the grant identified the place with the village of Rekapalli in the Bhadrachalam taluk, then in the East Godavari district.2 See Prolaya Nayaka and the Vilasa grant.

A forest fort

The Pentapadu grant of the Telugu Choda chief Bhaktiraja describes the time when the Yavanas (foreign Muslim rulers) held the Andhra country.34 It says that Prolaya and his ally Venga then left the Vengi country for a forest fort surrounded by hundreds of hills.34 From there they reconquered the country.34 The editors of the Vilasa grant thought this unnamed fort could safely be identified with Rekapalli.34 See the Musunuri Nayakas.
