Tadikonda
Village about eight miles north of Guntur, identified by B. V. Krishna Rao with Tandikonda, which the Eastern Chalukya king Amma II gave with three other villages to the temple of Uma-Mahesvara at Bezwada. Two old tanks named in the grant were still in use in the 1930s, and a mound on the bank of one held the ruins of a Shiva temple.
Tadikonda is the village that B. V. Krishna Rao identified in 1936 with Tandikonda, the chief village given in the Tandikonda grant of Amma II. He placed it in the Guntur taluk, about eight miles north of the district headquarters.1 The Eastern Chalukya king gave it, with three other villages, to the god Uma-Mahesvara in the temple that Vijayaditya II had built at Vijayawada (then Bezwada). The income was to maintain the temple, its offerings and music, and a feeding house.2 The plates themselves were found near Oruvakallu in the Sattenapalle taluk.3
The boundaries
Krishna Rao found that two of the tanks named among the boundaries of Tandikonda, Chayita and Bhimasamudra, still existed. He took Chayita to be the old name of a large tank of three or four square miles beside the village, which irrigated a wide area. On the bank of Bhimasamudra was a large mound called Bhimalingamu-dibba, with extensive ruins of a Shiva temple. Lamu, on the southern boundary, lay two miles south of the village.1
He placed Tandikonda in the Gudla-Kanderuvadi district, which he explained as the part of the Kanderuvadi district round Amaravati, named for its temples.21
