కొండపర్తి చౌండేశ్వర ఆలయం

వరంగల్ దగ్గర కొండపర్తిలో ఉన్న చౌండేశ్వర ఆలయం, చౌండ-సముద్రం అనే చెరువు. కాకతీయ రాజు గణపతిదేవుడి సేనాని, మల్యాల కుటుంబానికి చెందిన చౌండ ఈ రెండింటినీ కట్టించాడు. అక్కడ ఉన్న 1203 నాటి ఆయన శాసనం, గణపతిదేవుడు దివి దీవిని జయించడంలో ఆయన పాత్రను నమోదు చేస్తుంది.

కొండపర్తి వరంగల్ నుంచి సుమారు 12 కి.మీ. దూరంలో ఉంది.1 గణపతిదేవుడి సేనాని చౌండ హనుమకొండకు దక్షిణాన కొండపర్తిలో ఒక చెరువు తవ్వించాడని 1964లో ఎస్. గోపాలకృష్ణ మూర్తి (S. Gopalakrishna Murthy) నమోదు చేశారు.23 1203లో చౌండ అక్కడ చౌండేశ్వర ఆలయాన్ని కూడా కట్టించాడు.23

ఈ ఆలయాన్ని వేయి స్తంభాల ఆలయాల నమూనాలో కట్టారని మూర్తి వర్ణిస్తారు.23 దాని అర్ధస్తంభాలపై చెక్కడాలు, గర్భగుడి ద్వారానికి ఇరువైపులా మూడేసి ద్వారపాలకుల బొమ్మలు ఉన్నాయి.23 తన హంసపై నాట్యం చేస్తున్న సరస్వతి విరిగిన బొమ్మను ఆయన గుర్తించారు.23 ఆయన చౌండసముద్రం అని పిలిచే చెరువు కట్ట (గట్టు) దగ్గర రెండు చేతుల గణేశుడి విగ్రహం ఉంది.3

చౌండ, ఆయన శాసనం

పి. వి. పరబ్రహ్మ శాస్త్రి (P. V. Parabrahma Sastry) (1978) ఆ చెరువుకు చౌండ-సముద్రం అని, దాన్ని కట్టించినవాడికి గణపతిదేవుడి సైన్యాధిపతి చౌండ-సేనాపతి అని పేర్లు ఇస్తారు.1 చౌండ భార్య మైలమ కరీంనగర్ జిల్లాలోని కటకూరులో మరో చెరువు తవ్వించింది.1 చౌండ చెందిన మల్యాల నాయకులు ప్రధానంగా కొండపర్తి శాసనాల ద్వారా, మైలమ కటకూరు శాసనం ద్వారా తెలుస్తారు. కొండపర్తి శాసనంలోని కుటుంబ చరిత్ర ప్రకారం, ఈ కుటుంబం దన్నయ నుంచి వచ్చింది.45 దన్నయ మనవడు కాట రుద్రదేవుడి సైన్యాలకు నాయకత్వం వహించాడు.45 కాకతీయ సైన్యం కృష్ణా ముఖద్వారం దగ్గరి దివి దీవిని ఎలా దోచుకుందో, దాని వజ్రాలతో గణపతిదేవుడి ఖజానాను ఎలా నింపిందో 1203 నాటి శాసనం వర్ణిస్తుంది. ఈ దండయాత్ర ప్రధాన ఘనతను శాస్త్రి చౌండకు ఇస్తారు.65 దీనికి గాను దీవిని జయించినందుకు రాజు ఆయనకు ఒక బిరుదు ఇచ్చాడు.65 కొండపర్తి శాసనం (మల్యాల చౌండ సేనాని) పేజీ చూడండి.
