The Rayalaseema forts that Haidar Ali and Tipu Sultan held between 1762 and 1799: Penukonda and Madakasira, taken from Morari Rao in 1762; Gurramkonda; Bellary, seized in 1775 after Haidar's five-day march from Seringapatam; Gooty, taken in 1776; and Cuddapah and Sidhout, conquered in 1779. Shaded areas mark, roughly, the districts Tipu ceded to the Nizam in 1792 (the Cuddapah taluks, Gurramkonda and the Tadpatri country) and those the Nizam received after Tipu's death in 1799 (Gooty, Penukonda, Madakasira, Anantapur and Rayadurg); in 1800 the Nizam ceded both to the East India Company as the Ceded Districts. Routes and shaded areas are rough sketches.
