How the English East India Company acquired the Telugu districts it ruled until 1858: the Masulipatam country ceded by Salabat Jang after Forde's victory over the French (1759); the four Northern Circars of Kondapalli, Ellore, Rajahmundry and Chicacole, granted by the emperor in 1765 and ceded by the Nizam in 1766–68; the Guntur Circar (1788); the Ceded Districts of Rayalaseema (1800); Nellore and the Palnad with the Carnatic (1801); and the Kurnool jagir (1839). The Company's old factories at Madapollam and Injaram, Padmanabham, where the Raja of Vizianagaram fell in 1794, and the French settlement of Yanam are marked. The shaded areas are rough sketches of the districts the sources name, not surveyed boundaries.
